Prin’s Sonic Rebirth – The Calm Before Everything

[New York City, NY] — Prin, the rising ambient artist and composer, is thrilled to announce the release of her next single “A Long Time Coming,” arriving on all major streaming and download platforms on January 12, 2026.

A Long Time Coming was written in 2022 during songwriting sessions for singles featuring Atomik Muse (Shannon Ward), Krimsen Joy (Joy Bleecker Walsh), and Nick Flores (Peter Nicholas Flores). Those collaborations led to her evolution from songwriting to instrumental storytelling with ambient sounds.

Following her 2021 release, The Calm Principles, Prin shifted from New York City studio sessions to producing more atmospheric soundscapes in her home studio. Drawing on the throwback textures of Enigma and Moby, A Long Time Coming combines rich synthesizer layers with organic highlights – a sonic experience blending ambient tones and neo-classical emotion.

The ambient instrumental begins as a clean, meditative piece and gradually blossoms into a textured immersion of layered instrumentation and echoes. The title mirrors the emotional intent — an extended anticipation, a release, and the peace that comes with long-awaited change. The song mimics the classical music rounds by building layers with different sounds. 

“I wanted to capture the feeling of waiting for change,” says Prin. “…the stillness and the momentum right before everything starts to happen.” This is the first of four singles coming in 2026. 

Prin returns with a single that fuses ambient music production with neo-classical grit. “The Calm Principles album was fueled by grief after the loss of my brother in 2021. My new music is fueled by the journey to feeling calm again and moving forward with life.”

A Long Time Coming traces its lineage back to Prin’s debut album, Dim the Lights (2016) — a genre-blending singer-songwriter project. Tracks like The Sound of Us, Just Let Go, and Ana’s Song foreshadowed her current work in atmospheric production.

Prin is once again collaborating with Mark Plati (David Bowie), who provided final mix support for this project after working with her in 2016 and 2021. “Meeting Mark Plati during the Dim the Lights project has been a blessing in my creative life. I’ve never met a more genuine musician at that level who is so generous with his feedback and patience – willing to save the day when I can’t figure something out in production. I hope I’m beginning to show the results of that impact.” Prin composed, arranged, performed, mixed, and mastered the audio production of A Long Time Coming. No artificial intelligence was used in the creation of this single. 

BIO – PRIN

Born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey, with New York City as her creative backdrop, Prin began performing at 15 and graduated from Fordham University. Her early career included classical piano, improv pop, and songwriting that evolved into a blend of ambient and emotional storytelling. Prin pulls from her diverse ancestry to infuse her music with subtle global hints.

Prin (Princess Yvonne Dumas) is an independent composer, educator, author, and owner of Music by Prin LLC in New Jersey rooted in wellness and the arts. Prin’s released the albums Dim the Lights (2016) and The Calm Principles (2021). Through her books – Me in Gibber, The C.A.L.M.
