As part of my graduate work, I’ve been learning about a variety of research and integrative health resources. I’ve always had an art component in my wellness and the arts programs. It’s in the name! However, I added a fun structure to one of my upcoming workshops to give participants a more accessible art activity – neurographic art!

Benefits of Neurographic Drawing
- Calms the nervous system
- Increases focus and mindfulness
- Enhances problem-solving and insight
- Encourages emotional expression without words
- Helps reframe negative thoughts through visual transformation
The basic concepts of neurographic art do stem from a more formal practice with certification and methods. However, anyone can incorporate the principles of neurographic art to their meditation and educational routines.
BasicS OF NEUROGRAPHIC ART
- Black line drawings with rounded intersections
- Connecting the rounded ends of the lines
- Color radiating out from the center
- Emotions represented through color and movement
- Do in silence or with music as background
Neurographic art is a transformational art method that connects art, psychology, and mindfulness. It was developed in 2014 by Pavel Piskarev, a Russian psychologist, architect, and creativity researcher.
As part of my wellness and the arts programs, I now created a “sandwich” of two meditative portions with the art activity in between. It is the same idea as before, but now the sessions are less messy and can be done on the floor, if someone wants to sit or lay down to do the breathing and relaxation exercises. I’m very happy to be doing this on Thursday as a way of upgrading the ongoing series I have happening in Pequannock, NJ. To register for this program, you need to be part of the Community Pass program and register online through Parks and Rec.
Stay tuned for an update on a new program opening up in Jersey City, NJ – downtown! Excited!
